Night vision device PNW-57 A converted to a LiPo powerded device.

Today we will present you a simple guide to help you convert your night vision devices from Russian or other Eastern Bloc production to a battery operating device with standard airsoft batteries or normal batteries.

This present PNW-57 A night vision PNW-57 A night vision device is one of the first generation and intended for use in cars and tanks. Normally it would be powered by the 24 V car ports (cigarette lighter).

However, in order to bring the unit up to running,  9V are enough power. In our case, we use a 11.1 V LiPo battery. You can find them in Airsoft Guns or Model-Vehicles.

Please notice that these night vision devices are very light sensitive! Never use them in Daylight, otherwise the tubes inside the device will burn out.
Use this devices just in complete darkness or in a darkened room.

The conversion is actually very easy. The PNW-57 PNW-57 A is protected against reverse polarity and has a simple 2 pin connector that is normally plugged into the car extension cable.

Here it is now to find out what the + and which is the - pole is by trying with a charged battery with which polarity, the device is running.

IMPORTANT! The lens of the night vision device have to be covered  by the supplied protective caps otherwise the tubes will burn out when you start the devive in daylight. (This devices amplify weak light, the daylight would be just too much for the tubes).

Now we try just the two ways in which the poles might be occupied and paying attention to the sounds that came from the transformer (the box at the back of the tank hood)

If you hear no sound, then you have the wrong polarity. If a slight buzzin or crackin is heard, you have found the right one and the device works.

In the infrared headlights, it is much easier. Inside a simple light bulb so we don't have to care about the polarity.

Now that we know how to connect the device, we solder us a T-Connector (Dean) to the old plugs firmly and insulate everything well with shrink tubing. Once that is done, the unit is ready to use.

You can find the PNW57A night vision devices on Red Star Militaria

Nothing for sissies: Aptitude Test with Spetsnaz units

Aptitude test OMON ( OMOH ) :

Approved men 22 to 30 yearsCompleted military serviceFitness Test:- 3 km run within a maximum 11:45 min(In some units 5-7 km with full equipment )- At least 14 pull-ups ( in some units 18 min . )- Standing for candidates heavier than 95 kg barbell curl , 50 kg at least 6 reps- High jump from a squatting position with the knees pulled up at least 55 repetitions- Pushups at least 55 repetitions- Sit- ups at least 55 repetitions- Transition from push-up starting position in the squat at least 55 repetitions- Sparring melee with full contact and protective clothing at least 3 rounds- 1 round according to rules of Sambo- 2 round after Boxing rules- 3 round Free FightingIn some units will also be a battle with multiple assets OMON soldiers. The candidate mustfight with 3 to 7 opponents atIn another version, without restrictions, the candidate has to fight against multiple Speznas Soldiers who change every minute. So he always has fresh opponent in front of him

This is to determine how long the candidate that can withstand.

In this variant, it always comes back to deaths.A 30-year-old candidate, died of his injuries and in 2010 a 27 -year-old died in the endless sparring after 10 minutes.

Aptitude test for the red beret :

 - Basic training on all Russian and Western weapons types ( minimum grade: Good)
- 3 km run (not over 12:45 min)
 - At least 11 pull-ups

Complex power test at least 7 rows of the following exercises with 10 repetitions :
 - Push-ups- Sit- ups at least
 - Transition from push-up starting position in the squat
- High jump from a squatting position

The aptitude test will be held on the day of the main test instead , this takes one day and consists of the following tests:

- Forced march with full equipment and gun in difficult terrain ( at least 12 km)
- Overcoming a specific obstacle course under extreme conditions
 - Shooting Practice
 - Storming of a skyscraper
 - Acrobatic exercises
- melee

At the march , candidates have to cross waters , marshes, wooded areas , minefields , contaminated areas and fire, must overcome ambitious and fogged areas.Unexpected exercises will force commanded ( 50 push ups , 100 squats )Candidates may thereby be surprisingly attacked by enemies. On the whole track, the instructors will put candidates individually under psychological stress. The range of stress factors ranging from well -meaning advice "Why don't you stop?" or "Take a break." to humiliation and insults. In addition, firecrackers are thrown on applicants.

Even the low opportunity is used to candidates to give admonitions , 3 exhortations mean the termination of the test. The instructors always have the right to impede the march conditions. For example a candidate  has to carry a "wounded" comrade on the back or it will be announced shortly before march end, that the march route is no longer 12, but 15 km long.Approx. 80 % of applicants are already terminated by the march.

The track ends with a short-distance shuttle run 4 x 100 meters, then the test proceeds without a break, candidates must overcome an obstacle course . The route is longer anddifficult than a conventional storm track. Some of the obstacles to be overcome are thereby put with napalm fire.
Then, also without a break is a shooting exercise on the Plan.Shooting , with Makarov PM , Stetchkin APS , with the Assault Rifle AK74M , the PKM machine gun, the Dragunov SVD sniper rifle the RPG-7 and grenade launcher AGS-17. Then the storming of a  building from the roof  by roping. This is followed by exercises in melee combat styles for special units with and without weapons .
The  exercises must be repeatedly executed fluently.

The highlight of the beret test, the " 12 minutes of hell". 12 minutes sparring with full-contact plays a special meaning. Here, broken teeth and broken ribs are considered trifles. The sparring consists of 4 rounds of 3 minutes with no breaks. The applicant realises a new round when he is attacked by a new, fresh opponent. Each opponent is already carriers of the red beret. The test is passed if the applicant is able to fight until the end, applying a wide range of handles and leads the fight active.

The beret ceremony is a solemn ceremony. Each spetsnaz soldier gets his red beret before the troops. He takes his beret, going to the right knee, kisses the cap and puts it on. Then he stands up, turns his face to the troops, salutes, and says: "I serve the Russian Federation and the Spetsnaz!"Now the soldier has the right to wear his cap as part of the service and dress uniform. The Passed exam is noted in the service card.Passing the exam brings the soldier no pay increase or privileges, but they enjoy a higher Military and Social position of honor. No matter how old and worn a red beret is, it will never be replaced by a new one.
